Insurance equals peace of mind, with adequate cover you know you will be able to replace your belongings and have somewhere to live if you are burgled, have an accident or get caught up in an emergency. It is important to get the right level of cover and to understand the difference between contents and buildings insurance.
- Buildings Insurance covers the fabric of your home, the bricks and mortar, against things like fire, floor and subsidence.
- Contents Insurance covers your belongings.
As a rule of thumb, any item you would take with you when you move would come under your contents policy. Anything else that is actually part of the house would come under the buildings policy.

Being banned from driving has many disadvantages. The 3 main questions you should ask yourself are –
- How would I get around?
- How would I cope financially?
- Would I lose my job?
With the variety of different speed limits and enforcement cameras on our ever expanding road network, we can all become confused of the imposed speed restrictions. Even the most safety conscious driver can have a momentary lapse of concentration and get flashed!
If you are insured with Driving Ban Assistance, should you lose your licence through the ‘totting up’ of penalty points, we will reimburse to you the cost of alternative transportation, up to £1000 per month, for a maximum of 6 months.
There are no large up front costs - you simply protect yourself by paying a small monthly amount which gives you instant protection and peace of mind.

Professional Indemnity Insurance protects anyone, or any entity providing specialist advice or services. Professional Indemnity is not only for members of the traditional professions such as Lawyers and Accountants but also for computer consultants, recruitment agencies, and internet service providers and media consultants among others.
Professional Indemnity is essential protection, not only for valid claims but also and perhaps more importantly, for the cost of the defence of allegations of professional negligence.
The litigious times and the concomitant high expectations of skill and care, mean that the incidence of such professional liability circumstances continues to rise. Irrespective of right, all require to be defended, involving cost and time.
Furthermore your potential liability for professional services rendered extends for a considerable time after completion-currently up to FIFTEEN YEARS in certain circumstances.
Our focus on service and commitment to best advice make it unlikely we can assist those paying premiums of less than £1000.

What is public liability insurance?
Public liability insurance also known as business liability insurance by some provides cover for any third party injury or property damage caused by the insured during the course of their insured occupation.
An example of an injury to a member of the public which you may be held liable for would be if you were to leave your tools on the ground and someone then tripped over them. Whilst you may think this is unlikely, many people have commented on the increase in liability claims since the growth of 'no win no fee' legal services.
An example of property damage would be if you were to carry some of your equipment into the customer’s property and accidentally knock over an expensive vase, obviously this type of incident can occur very easily showing a clear need for liability insurance.
What is employer’s liability insurance?
If you are an employer in the UK then you must legally have employer’s liability. This policy provides cover for any injury your employee may receive whilst working under your direction, for example if they were working on a ladder which collapsed and they fell injuring themselves.
Such claims can obviously be for thousands of pounds which when compared with the low cost of an insurance policy it simply wouldn't make sense not to have liability insurance even if it wasn't compulsory.
As an employer you may be confused whether or not the people that you work with are legally considered employees, as a general rule of thumb someone would be considered your employee if they worked under your direction using tools, equipment and products supplied by yourself.
Do I need liability insurance?
Within the UK there is no legal requirement for public liability insurance, however a liability claim against your small business could bankrupt you without having sufficient insurance in place so you should consider it within your business plan regardless of its legal requirement.
If you have any employees, even if it was just a part time employee then you must have a minimum employer’s liability insurance policy of an indemnity £5,000,000 in effect although most insurers offer £10,000,000 as standard. Failure to have employers liability when legally required could lead to fines and even a custodial sentence.
If you are self employed or a sole trader then the chances are there is no legal split between yourself and your occupation, meaning that if something were to happen then your own finances would more than likely be required to pay costs which could ultimately bankrupt you which can cause huge problems in your future. Considering we can insure multiple different job types such as nail technician, window cleaner and builder it simply does not make sense to stay uninsured.
